Major Police Crackdown at Barking Station Delivers Arrests and Reassurance for Commuters.
A major policing operation at Barking Train Station delivered a strong show of force and reassurance for commuters during peak travel times on Thursday 18 December, as officers joined forces to crack down on crime across the transport network.
The high visibility operation brought together officers from the Met Police, British Transport Police and City Police in a coordinated effort to target those using the rail network to commit crime, while also engaging positively with the public. The aim was clear: to disrupt criminal activity, reassure commuters and ensure staff and passengers could travel safely and confidently.
Alongside this, officers carried out joint patrols with London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council Enforcement Officers around the wider station area and Barking Town Centre. Patrols covered Ripple Road, Market Place, East Street and London Road, with a static engagement stall set up to offer crime prevention advice and speak directly with residents and commuters. Further visits were made to Vicarage Fields and its car park, as well as a number of local businesses that have experienced crime and anti social behaviour.
The operation delivered clear results. A total of 23 individuals were stopped and searched, leading to 12 positive outcomes. These included community resolutions, penalty notices and arrests. One individual was arrested for possession of cannabis and an offensive weapon, while two others were arrested after being identified as wanted by the courts for failing to appear.
Superintendent Biju Premnath, responsible for Neighbourhood Policing, said:
“This high visibility operation at Barking Station has resulted in a number of individuals being held to account for their actions, whether it is traveling whilst having illegal items in their possession or for being wanted by the courts. Commuters should be able to travel and work safely and without fear, while the rail network staff work in a safe environment. These results show effective collaboration by different sectors of policing and partners, with positive enforcement outcomes making the area that much safer. If you have concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour in your neighbourhood or at locations during your daily commute, please get in touch with your local team via our new platform Met Engage. You can get to know your local officers, help shape how we police your local area and have direct access to key information and advice by visiting http://www.metengage.co.uk/”
Police say the operation highlights their ongoing commitment to visible, proactive policing and partnership working, sending a clear message that criminal behaviour on the transport network and in town centres will not be tolerated.

My 8 year old Grandson and I, have been going to London for the day on Saturdays , many times young men are pushing their way through the barriers and not paying the fair, on one occasion getting off at Ronford station their was a lot of police at the barriers ,the young lad in front of us turned round and went back to the platform to get another train , also there is so many buggers on the trains making you feel uncomfortable, if they have no money how do they get on the trains , no one stops these individuals or even confronts them in case they cause trouble .
