Please be vigilant on your journey home.

Two mobile phone robberies took place in Havering yesterday evening, with gangs of masked youths on electric bikes targeting residents in both Hornchurch and Romford.

The incidents, which happened shortly after 6pm, have sparked fresh warnings for people to stay vigilant and keep their phones safe when travelling home.

In Hornchurch, the robbery occurred between Sainsbury’s and the pub opposite, while in Romford the incident is believed to have taken place in the town centre. In both cases, a group of masked youths on e-bikes are reported to have been waiting for opportunities to snatch phones from unsuspecting victims.

These types of robberies have become increasingly common across London and now appear to have reached Havering. Police are actively working on both incidents and faced paced investigations are taking place.

South Havering Inspector Mark Connolly told The Havering Daily:

“Police are investigating reports of masked youths with face coverings on electric bikes stealing mobile phones. We are aware of these reports and are working to identify those involved.”
