An animal rescue charity is urging residents in Rainham to be on high alert after two cats were discovered with horrific injuries caused by snares.

Pippa’s Army, a local animal rescue organisation, has raised the alarm after being called to two separate incidents involving cats caught in traps on the Lance Street estate, just opposite Tesco in Rainham. One of the cats tragically had to be put to sleep due to the severity of its injuries. Both animals suffered serious trauma to their paws, with one reportedly losing a paw entirely.

It is believed the snares were deliberately laid by a “disgustingly evil and sick individual” intent on harming animals.

In response to the incidents, Pippa’s Army will be leafleting the local area tomorrow to warn pet owners and raise awareness of the ongoing danger. The charity is also urging anyone who sees suspicious behaviour or finds similar traps to report it immediately.

Snaring is widely condemned by animal welfare organisations for its indiscriminate and barbaric nature, often causing prolonged suffering or death to animals—both domestic and wild.

Residents with cats are advised to keep their pets indoors where possible and remain vigilant while walking in the area.

If you have any information, or if your pet has been injured in a similar way, please contact Pippa’s Army and the police.

This is an utterly, disgusting act of cruelty and we hope the individual will be caught immediately.
