Havering Marks Remembrance Sunday with fantastic parades.
‘If I should die, think only this of me- That there’s some corner of a foreign field-That is for ever England.’
Havering marked Remembrance Sunday with many parades rights across our borough. Local dignitaries joined in the special events for the day to remember all those who gave their life for us.
Parades began just after 10am and finished with services by the many memorials we have across Havering. Special prayers were said, as members of our armed forces marched with pride alongside local scouts, beavers, guides and police cadets. Police officers and members of the fire service joined parades to mark their respect to the many who served our country.
It was a very special day where all members of the community came together to thank those who fought so courageously, including those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Romford
Romford saw the biggest parade led by the Royal British Legion band and a special service held at Coronation Gardens. Hundreds came to join in the morning’s event and pay their respects.
The Member of Parliament for Romford, Andrew Rosindell was joined by Havering’s Leader of the Council Councillor Ray Morgon, Chief Executive, Andrew Blake Herbert and many local councillors who all stood side by side.
Harold Hill
A special parade was held in Harold Hill that began by St George’s Church and made its way down passed the Hilldene shops to the Memorial Stone.
The parade was organised by Matt Bryant the local scout leader and saw members of the local Armed Forces Cadet groups march alongside scouts, beavers and cubs.
The service was led by Vicar Reverend Nathan Joss-Pothen.
Local councillor Paul MGeary was joined by community champion Jan Sargeant and anti knife crime campaigner Sue Hedges from the Ricky Hayden Memorial. Former Mayor and local Councillor Trevor McKeever was present to lay a special wreath on behalf of the council. Local Councillors Keith Darvill, Frankie Walker and Patricia Brown were also present to lay a wreath.
Rainham
The Rainham event was led by Deputy Mayor and local councillor Sue Ospreay alongside Councillors Graham Williamson and Natasha Summers.
Elm Park
Hundreds came out to take part in Elm Park’s parade. The event was organised by Joanne White and local Councillors Barry Mugglestone and Stephanie Nunn. Deputy Lieutenant Manjit Singh, who is also a local community champion for Elm Park was also present.
Upminster
The Member of Parliament for Hornchurch and Upminster Julia Lopez joined in the Upminster parade alongside local police officers and councillors and the many residents who joined in the parade.
