Havering’s Character Study, a key component in the refresh of the Local Plan adopted in 2021, has been published.

Following extensive consultations and surveys, the study has helped to gather useful insights to help to identify the different neighbourhoods and priorities for improvements.

It considers the character of the borough and will be used to make recommendations for how future development can be designed to benefit the people who live, work and study in Havering.

The study highlights the predominant suburban nature of the borough, the very limited capacity for tall buildings and the multitude of varied communities from towns to villages that make up the borough.

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Development, said:

“The Character study will prove to be a significant help to us as we analyse the built environment, as well as providing insight into the physical and socioeconomic influences that have made Havering what it is today.

“I’d like to thank everyone who contributed various aspects of local life, from green spaces and transport to community spirit and heritage, to help us to make informed decisions for the future of Havering.”

The Character Study has already contributed to the Romford Masterplan, which goes to Cabinet on 18 September.

    Who wrote this article?
    I read it 3 times and still didn’t understand the point of it.
    Was the whole article written by Cllr Williamson or was it compiled by Council Officers?
    The quality of life in Havering has deteriorated significantly over recent years.
    Our Councillors and Senior Council Officers blame everyone other than themselves for the problems that exist and they have a history of refusing to engage with residents who are forced to pay their generous salaries, expenses and allowances.

    What on earth was Cllr Williamson waffling on about in the sentence which started with;
    “I’d like to thank……”?
    Are there any journalists, Councillors or residents out there who might know?
