Since the introduction of the ban on dogs at the cafe area at Hornchurch Country Park, the cafe remains virtually empty each day.

It was once a thriving cafe with many dog walkers meeting up their daily to enjoy their hot drink after a walk with their dogs. But now, since the ban on dogs, the cafe area remains virtually empty each day.

Kelly, a regular dog walker told the Havering Daily: “Today we saw just two people inside the cafe area. I also witnessed a member of staff behind the counter shout at a person who tried to enter the cafe with their dog to order a drink.

“We are now expected to order our drinks from a side window and sit on wooden benches that are regularly vandalised, despite the cafe being empty.”

Kelly wrote an email to Essex Wildlife Trust in regards to the cafe area, clearly stating that dog walkers were made to feel extremely unwelcome and that they could not understand why they had now been banned.

Kelly continued: “It used to be a really busy cafe bustling all day with dog owners and now its a ghost town. We are expected to stand or sit on wooden benches, regardless of the weather.

“Why is this centre so anti dog walkers when 90% of the park users are dog owners?”

Kelly has yet to receive any response from Essex Wildlife Trust to her email.

The benches dog walkers are expected to use after the cafe ban on dogs.

Too many dogs over this park, it puts me off going over there. You’ve got your own outside area so use it. This is a cafe, not a ‘dog cafe/creche’.

I would like to show my support for the café that is rightly excluding dogs from inside. My godchild has an allergy to dogs, he is one of the 30% of the UK population that have pet allergies. We are getting to the point where we are becoming more and more exclude from just about every café, restaurant, holiday accommodation, visitor attractions and beaches due to owners and businesses feeling bullied and guilt tripped into allowing dogs. I like to dogs, and they have a place (and I fully support assistance dogs without question in establishments). however, there should be room for those human beings who are now excluded due to their allergies. Also there are still 66% of the UK population that do not own dogs, shouldn’t they have an option to consume food away from dogs; not everyone wants to smell dogs when they are eating.
