Margaret Mullane, Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, has welcomed the decision to retain the Elm Park Children’s Centre for at least another year.

Margaret told the Havering Daily: “The Elm Park Children’s Centre had the threat of imminent closure hanging over it due to the Tory government’s continued underfunding of local government. The centre will be remaining open thanks to a residents’ campaign and a petition backed by Dagenham and Rainham Labour Party and Beam Park councillors, Matt Stanton and Trevor Mckeever.”

Margaret added: “Residents have spoken, and we have persuaded Havering Council of the need for the centre to continue. These vital early years services will continue to help children have the best start in life. I understand that the Centre is to be kept open for at least a year. I can assure parents who rely on the Elm Park Children’s Centre, that I will continue to make the argument that its services are needed and should continue to operate.”

Looking at the wider position, Margaret finished by saying:“Councils, schools and the NHS are all suffering from 13 years of underfunding from Tory governments. The only way out is to get rid of this Conservative Government. They have pushed up the Council Tax bill across the country by over £14 billion in the last 13 years, while their non-dom donors earn their money here but pay no taxes here”.
