Police appeal for witnesses to serious collision in Upminster.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Upminster on Sunday 26 June after a driver crashed into a gas main.

A Met Police spokesperson said:

“Police were called at 18:10hrs on Sunday, 26 June, to the A127, junction with Front Lane, Upminster, following a road traffic collision. A car – a black Mercedes – had left the road and collided with a lamp post, sign and gas main.

“Officers attended, along with London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance.

“The driver of the car was taken to hospital, where his condition is life-threatening.”

Local roads were closed and some local residents evacuated from their homes. Roads have now reopened and residents have been able to return home.

The collision is being investigated by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation unit based at Chadwell Heath. There has been no arrest.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, including those with dash cam/mobile phone footage, who have not yet come forward to contact the investigation team by calling 020 8597 4874 or 101 quoting CAD 5664 as a reference.
