Two bereaved mums yesterday joined forces to install Havering’s first bleed kit unit at The Sun public house on London Road. Julie Taylor from the Liam Taylor Legacy and Sue Hedges from the Ricky Hayden Memorial, came together in Romford alongside Police Sergeant Jane Collard and The Sun manager Tracey to install the first bleed kit unit in the borough.

Julie donated Havering’s first bleed kit last month to the Mardyke community centre and has since donated a further bleed kit to Romford town centre that was placed in MacDonalds on South Street. As a result of Julie’s generosity, Romford Town Centre police team all chipped in to buy another bleed kit for their area.

These kits are from the Daniel Baird Foundation, thanks to Lynne Baird and approved by the London Ambulance Service.

Yesterday, anti knife crime campaigners met outside the Romford pub to install the first actual unit on the pub wall. These kits and units are life saving tools that are sadly vital in our current society.

Local pub drinkers were so impressed with the work these mums are doing, that one, Karl handed over £100 from his pocket to pay for another bleed kit in the area.

Julie, who lost her grandson Liam to knife crime and Sue and April who lost their son/brother to knife crime have really dedicated their lives to combating these horrors. These mums are total heroes who spend everyday installing kits like these and joining different campaigns to stop these awful crimes from taking place on our streets.

Sergeant Jane Collard told the Havering Daily: “Thank you to both Julie and Sue for this bleed kit unit that is an important tool for us to have locally. They do fantastic work in our community and we need as many of these as we can.”

Not only have East Area police officers been supporting all the hard work these mums do, but also as mentioned earlier, paid for a further bleed kit for Romford, so watch this space for further news.

Well done to everyone involved, you are amazing community champions.
