The Havering Daily is running a list of the different candidates across Havering in preparation for the local elections on May 5.

Today we meet Paul McGeary, a Labour candidate for Gooshays ward.

As the Gooshays ward councillor since 2018 and previously the ward councillor for Heaton Ward my main priority is Harold Hill, I am a local councillor first and foremost.

I have lived in the ward since 1985 and I have been a local school governor for over thirty years. I am currently the Vice Chair of Governors at Mead and Broadford schools and for many years previously Chair of Governors at St Ursula’s School in Straight road.

I also sit on the board at BETRA tenant management group in Gooshays.

In my current term, I have campaigned successfully to keep the walk in centre at Harold Wood open. Led the campaign to stop the housing development at Gooshays Green holding regular public meetings and meetings with officers and working with residents to submit objections to planning applications.

In addition I have managed to get officers to fund the repairs to Central Park play equipment, repairs to the park bench on Gooshays Drive and get a memorial bench with the help of the Friends of Dagenham Park installed in Dagnam Park and get many incidents of fly tipping removed from the area. As an active member of the Harold Hill Wombles I have been working with them to keep local areas green.

John Reids statement is untrue as I am sure Michelle will attest to I have been wombling in Straight road, The Manor, Petersfield Avenue and Hitchin Close to name a few.
