The Havering Daily is running a list of the different candidates across Havering in preparation for the local elections on May 5.

Today we have Ajay Singh, who is an H.R.A Candidate for Rush Green and Crowlands ward.

I have been living in Havering with my wife and young daughter for the last seven years and looking to represent the Havering Residents Association (H.R.A) in the Rush Green and Crowlands ward in the coming local elections. I am a Sikh, a minority faith shared by just 0.8% of the total population, but I cannot thank enough the people of Havering and the H.R.A for showing me great love and confidence in being able to represent my area.

There are many serious issues in this ward that the current Councillors have failed to tackle, including litter on the road, illegal HGVs parking on the road and pavements, noise and air pollution and the health & safety of residents and commuters. On countless occasions, local residents have registered their complaints and protests to councillors, MP, council, Environment Agency and relevant authorities, to no avail.

I never had any ambition to become a politician but since these issues have been ignored, it prompted me to challenge a system that is not working for the people. I am thankful to local residents who believe and encouraged me to represent our area and glad to have the support of the H.R.A and how it is “working for locals by locals without Westminster politics”.

Some of you will be aware of my local struggle with Crow Metals (see the FB group “We will be heard-Havering”), but I like to meet and talk to residents about any of their day-to-day issues and try to find solutions. For example, the lack of parking for customers of Rush Green retailers, illegal parking causing traffic queues in Sandgate Close, the need for pedestrian crossings to the west of the Crow Lane-Jutsums Lane roundabout and on Jutsums Lane north of the roundabout. I am following up on all these concerns.  Further afield, I took part with H.R.A Team members in planting more than a thousand trees in Havering Country Park. This is so important as we need to ensure Havering stays as one of the greenest boroughs in London.

Overall, I feel a deep sense of satisfaction supporting the needs of local residents and hope to continue to do so in the Council chamber.
