A festive Christmas meal for the elderly residents in South Hornchurch.

The Christmas spirit was out in full force at the Mardyke Community centre in South Hornchurch yesterday, Thursday 9 December. Many elderly residents from across the area were invited to the annual M.Y.C.A Senior Citizens Christmas lunch to join in some festive fun and have the chance to meet others and have a hot meal.

Lesley Blowers, Centre Manager

Centre staff, local councillors, volunteers and local businesses all came together to make the day as special as possible for our elderly residents. All the food and drink served was donated by local businesses.

This annual event is always a huge success

Centre manager, Lesley Blowers told the Havering Daily: “It is always a pleasure to host the Christmas lunch here at the centre for our community. I would just like to say thank you to Tropical Sun (Wanis), Hawkins & Sons Butchers, Costcutters, Mijanul Islam, the MYCA Fund Raising Committee, Geoff Hartnell, Appletons & Sons, the MYCA Bingo Club, local community volunteers and donors, and of course the amazing centre staff, who all contributed to making the day happen.”

The day was an amazing success and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Well done to everyone involved.
