Bomb scare in Romford

Roads around The Mercury shopping in Romford centre have been closed and buildings including The Liberty shopping centre have been evacuated, after reports of a suspicious package found on a bus.

A Met police spokesperson told the Havering Daily:

‘Police were called at approximately 16:30hrs on Thursday, 19 August following reports of a suspected suspicious package on a bus near Mercury Gardens, Romford.

‘Officers attended and at 17:38hrs the package was assessed as non-suspicious. Cordons are now being lifted.’
