A mother of two who has a severely disabled son has lost everything she owns in fire that started in the kitchen. The lady who cannot be named, had just recently moved into the house in Rainham with her two children and had gone to see a family member when she returned home to find the fire had destroyed the house and their belongings.
She told the Havering Daily: “I accepted the property so myself and my children had somewhere to move to, I didn’t have much information on the house. I know it belongs to a housing association and I have now been told that apparently there were no health and safety checks done on this property.
“I had asked for a gas cooker as I have a young child in the house and I did not want him switching an electric cooker on so easily, but I wasn’t told that there wasn’t a safety certificate.
“I am a single mum with a severely disabled son and my other son is deaf in one ear, now we find ourselves in a hotel with hardly anything left. All his toys have been destroyed, our clothes, all our electrical stuff, pretty much everything has gone.”
The distraught mother does not know how the fire started and is hoping an investigation is going to be launched to establish the cause of the fire.
“I don’t know how it started, I don’t even know if the smoke alarms worked as none of the neighbours even knew there was a fire. It’s awful, I’m really struggling to manage.”
