A Harold Hill mum is running her first virtual London marathon to raise money for a local anti knife crime charity in October.
Shaheen Pratten, joined the Havering charity Take A Knife Save A Life two years ago to help her community combat knife crime. Now, the 50 year old mum is embarking in her first London marathon to raise much needed funds for the organisation.
Shaheen told the Havering Daily: “I joined Taksal two years ago as I wanted to do my bit for the local community. I have a 17 year old son and like the rest of us, I worry about knife crime and what is going on around us. You hear so many stories on the news of the horrors of knife crime.”
The Harold Hill mum is familiar with running having already taken part in half marathons for charity.
“In 2014 I started losing weight by exercising and really enjoyed doing it. So I kept it up and began running 5k and then 10k races. I have run 20 miles for breast cancer, but this is the first marathon I have run.
“This is close to my heart as I am a Taksal member so I am trying to raise as much awareness for the charity as I possibly can. I’m not running this marathon to break any personal records, it is purely to raise funds for Taksal.”
