A security company based in Romford has reached out to help a struggling paralympian be able to train at home during this third lock down.

Jff Security and Solutions Ltd owned by Scott Squibb saw Brock Whiston’s urgent appeal to help her buy gym equipment to train at home. Brock is a 24 year old Paralympian swimmer who will be competing in Tokyo during the next para olympics. Sadly, Brock, from Collier Row has not been able to do her usual training as the swimming pools are closed due to the pandemic and was looking for people to help her purchase gym equipment so that she could train at home.

Local lad Scott told the Havering Daily: “I saw Brock’s appeal in needing help to buy gym equipment. As a company we like to help people in the community, so we reached out to Brock and decided to sponsor her.”

Scott and his team were able to buy Brock cross fit equipment, a treadmill, weights and other such items to give her the facility to keep up with her training at home.

“If we can help Brock reach her dream, that’s what it’s all about really. Since we began sponsoring her we have developed a friendship now and its great for us to see how well she is getting on everyday.”

The security company was started two years ago by Scott and provides not only security but marshals, dog handlers and close protection staff if needed.

Scott added “We like to help others in our community here and we saw that Brock is from Collier Row so is a really worthwhile person to help.”

Due to the pandemic Brock has not been able to train in a swimming pool as she would do normally so has had to improvise to be able to still swim.

She told the Havering Daily: “We have converted the covered greenhouse into a 12 foot pool, attaching a bungee so I can train.”

Brock would normally spend 14 hours a week in a pool and now due to another lock down she has not been able to do this.

“It’s been really difficult not being able to feel the water around me as I’m used to doing. It really has been a mental challenge as due to my disability I can’t just go for a run or a bike ride, that’s why the gym equipment was so important for me.

“This lock down has been hard for athletes, especially in aquatics as pools have been closed. I’m so grateful to Scott as I have gym equipment now, where as my other equipment was thirty years old. It really has been set back after setback.”

Now with her new equipment and her home made pool, Brock will once again be able to get on track.

Brock is a very inspirational lady who has shown that nothing can stop you achieving your goal.

Well done to Scott and his firm for being community heroes.
