Woman in her 90’s on mobility scooter hit by car facing life threatening injuries.
A lady in her 90’s on her mobility scooter believed to have just left Mawney Park yesterday afternoon, was involved in a collision with a car.
The pensioner was along Mawney Road in Romford, when she was struck by the vehicle and rushed to a major trauma centre where she now faces life threatening injuries.
A Met Police spokesperson told the Havering Daily:
“Police were called at 12:20hrs on Sunday, 29 November to reports of a collision involving a mobility buggy and a car at the junction of Mawney Road and Susan Close in Romford.
“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. A woman in her 90’s, who was travelling in the mobility buggy, was found with a leg injury. She has been taken to an east London hospital and her injuries are potentially life-threatening.
“The driver of the car stopped at the scene. There have been no arrests.”
Enquiries are ongoing and road closures remain in place.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service told the Havering Daily:
“We were called at 12.13 pm yesterday to reports of a traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Mawney Road, Romford.
“We sent an ambulance crew, a medic in a car, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic. The first of our medics were at the scene in under four minutes.
“A woman was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

People unable to pass a medical to drive a car should not be allowed to drive these vehicles on the road or pavement many are killed or injured every year.

How do you know that she wasn’t on the pavement, everything is not black and white you need to know the full storybefore comenting
As a family member who knows the lady involved, I find your comment incredibly insensitive. Maybe you should find out the facts before deciding to post inflammatory comments.
The issue in this case wasn’t the age of her or her ability to use the scooter properly. The issue is the road itself and the pavement that runs along it. Cars regularly park on the pavement meaning that she has on regular occasions had to venture into the road just to get around inconsiderate arseholes that block the pavement. From what we have heard on this occasion however, is that a car stopped in the road to let her cross and then another car came up alongside this car and hit her whilst she crossed. I hardly think that’s any fault of her own do you?
Also do you think that elderly people have less of a right to live a normal life than you? By taking away her mobility scooter she would lose just that, her freedom and right to a normal life. Whilst I agree that elderly people should have medicals on a more regular basis in order to be considered fit to drive cars or use mobility scooters, I can assure you that her health was that good that if she had ever learnt how to drive a car then I have no doubt that she would be absolutely fine to do so to this day.

Thanks for the supportive comments. This is my nan. She is doing her best to recover, and is doing better than expected to be honest. She doesn’t have any dementia by the way, even at her age, completely cognisant and intelligent. Lewis, we must be related.
