‘We believe someone kicked her so hard that they shattered her pelvis.’

A couple in Havering have been left heartbroken after discovering their dog had been found with life changing injuries on the side of the road in the early hours of the morning.

Jim and Joyce from Hornchurch had left their dog on the 21st of December, with a lady they have known for several years, in Aveley as they had been attending a family gathering and did not want to leave their twelve year old West Highland terrier alone for too long.

The couple were devastated to learn that their little Connie had not only gone missing from the property but had sustained severe injury and all under mysterious circumstances.

Jim told the Havering Daily:

I dropped Connie off to Kathy’s house in Hall Lane, on Saturday just before lunch. I have known Kathy for several years and she has always been an animal lover and offered to look after Connie for us.

I returned on Sunday morning to collect her and when I arrived at the property I found the door open. I called out to Connie and there was no one at home. I pushed the door open to see if anyone was indoors and I saw broken glass and blood all over the floor.

“I didn’t know what to do really so I called Kathy’s mobile and she told me that she was in hospital and could not remember what had happened and told me that Connie would be with her neighbour.

I knocked on the neighbour’s door but there was no answer. I was panicking at this stage as I could not understand where my dog was and what had happened in the house.

Another neighbour came out to talk to me and helped me by putting Connie’s picture on facebook to see if anyone had seen her and luckily a lady responded.”

Connie had been found by a man just after 2am on the Sunday morning, soaking wet, not able to walk and sitting by the side of Ship Lane with blood down her mouth.

The good samaritan picked her up and carried her to his mum’s house where they cleaned her up and let her sleep until morning when they contacted the dog warden.

The warden bought Connie straight to the vet as she was unable to walk. We feared that she had been run over by a car and myself and my wife were in a terrible state.

The vet told us that her pelvic bones had been completely smashed and that she needed to be transferred to a specialist centre in Cambridge.”

Connie has now been at the Dick White referral centre for two weeks undergoing a series of operations. She has had pins put in her pelvis to help her walk again.

The couple are asking for help to pay for Connie’s operation as the cost so far has been over £10,000.

Connie is part of our family, we have been left with a huge hole in our life whilst she’s not here. Not knowing what has happened to her is that hardest part. We have been told that someone might have kicked her so hard that she broke her pelvis”, said Joyce.

The couple are trying to discover what happened that night and why their dog was found in Ship Lane in the early hours of the morning unable to walk with blood on her mouth.

Pins implanted in Connie to help her rebuild her pelvis.

The cost of the bill has so far reached nearly £10,000 and the couple are struggling to pay this bill as Connie still cannot walk and needs further treatment.
