Members of ‘Take a knife Save a life’ last night conducted a weapon sweep in Collier Row and found an eight to ten inch knife linked to a metal pole that could be used like a spear.
The team of five volunteers were out patrolling the streets of Collier Row and conducting the weapon sweep when Rob Dean found the dangerous weapon.
Paula Mulvihill told the Havering Daily:
‘With the long nights drawing in, we were patrolling alleys ways behind the shops and conducting weapon sweeps. We were behind the old post office that is boarded up when Rob found the knife with the discarded pole on the floor.
‘The knife is about eight to ten inches long and there is tape across the pole so it looks like they place the knife handle inside the pole and use it like a spear.
‘In Collier Row we already found four knives, an axe and a gun. We hand them all in to Romford police station either in their amnesty bin or over the front counter’.
Paula added, ‘I am very proud of the taksal team, everybody works so hard. We do need more volunteers so if anyone is interested in joining us please see our facebook page. We are looking for as many new volunteers as possible.’
