Romford collected three points from a league game for the first time since the opening day of the season against a SOUL Tower Hamlets team who were reduced to nine men before Boro struck for the first time.

The major talking point in the first half was the dismissal of Tower Hamlets defender Kieran James who, having been dispossessed by Jack Zielinski on the edge of his own penalty area, brought down the Romford striker as he tried to recover the ball. Romford failed to capitalise from the free-kick, however.

Chances were thin on the ground in the first half with the closest to a goal being a shot from outside the box by Tower Hamlets’ Samir Bihmoutine, which hit the right hand post.
Boro had a chance as the game entered stoppage time at the end of the first period. Jaxon Brown and Kian Cocking combined well on the right, but when the ball was set up for Alfie Osborne, his shot from 20 yards proved to be a comfortable gather for William Betts.
The second half was similarly light on chances. Boro keeper Lamar Johnson blocked a shot at the expense of a corner after 52 minutes and with 54 minutes played Aron Gordon delivered a dangerous corner for Romford that Brown flicked on but straight at Betts in the Tower Hamlets goal.
Romford got their noses in front after 66 minutes. Gordon released Brown on the left and when the Boro forward got to the by-line, his cut-back was diverted towards goal by Zielinski only for Dion Lewis-Kirwan to keep the ball out with his hand. Brown stepped up to convert the penalty and finally put Boro ahead.

Understandably, little was seen of Tower Hamlets as an attacking threat after this point, although they did force a few corners, but rarely looked like scoring. Boro doubled their lead after 70 minutes when Zielinski marked his debut with a goal. Ben Sargent fed Matt Blake on the right and his cut-back found the former Harlow Town striker in space and with time to place a shot past Betts.

Boro wrapped up the points with a third goal after 89 minutes. A corner from the left found its way to Cocking, and he delivered a pass to Blake lurking on the edge of the penalty area which the substitute placed into the far corner for his second goal in Romford colours.
The win takes Boro up to 12th in the table with a trip to Benfleet to come on Wednesday evening followed by the visit of Hadleigh United to Mayesbrook Park next Saturday in the First Round of the FA Vase.
