PRO ACTIVE POLICE CRACKDOWN SEES SUR-RONS AND E-BIKES SEIZED AFTER PURSUITS ACROSS HAVERING.
A major joint police operation across Havering has seen stolen motorcycles, Sur-Rons and high-powered e-bikes seized following a series of pursuits, with Havering Joint Task Force officers sending a clear warning that dangerous and illegal riding will not be tolerated on the borough’s streets.

Last week some joint working between, Havering Joint Task Force (HJTF), EA Pro-active syndicates and MO7 Interceptors resulted in several vehicle pursuits across Havering. The operation was targeting MV crime and those involved. Pictures of the motorcycle, Sur-Rons and e-Bikes that were all recovered following vehicle pursuits were also released.
Following reports of ASB and suspects linked to wider criminality the following incidents took place.
A stolen motorcycle fails to stop in Harold Hill with tactical contact initiated to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion in Retford Road. One adult male is arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, dangerous driving and no licence and no insurance. The motorcycle was recovered.
Two e-Bikes fail to stop in Lower Bedfords Road, Harold Hill at speeds of between 40-50mph. A 16 year old male was processed at the scene for driving offences whilst the other decamped into rear gardens and despite an extensive search was lost. Both e-bikes were seized by police.
Two males riding a Sur-Ron type vehicle were observed in the Upminster area and pursued into Hornchurch whereby they collided with street furniture. No injuries were sustained. A 15 year old male was prosecuted for driving offences and the vehicle has been seized.
Two other Sur-Ron type vehicles failed to stop for a marked police vehicle through Hornchurch Town Centre, one of the males dropped the bike and was quickly detained outside Hornchurch Leisure Centre. A 15 year old male was prosecuted for multiple driving offences and the vehicle was seized by police.
A/Insp Ben Tanner of the Havering Joint Task Force told the Havering Daily:
“Last week’s operation sends a very clear message: we will not tolerate the illegal and reckless use of these high-powered vehicles on our streets. They pose a significant danger not only to pedestrians and other road users but also the riders themselves.
“While legal electrically assisted pedal bikes offer a sustainable way to travel, the ones seized last week were found to be heavily modified or built as high-powered electric dirt bikes capable of reaching speeds well in excess of 40mph. These vehicles were therefore legally classed at motorcycles – meaning they require registration, tax, insurance, a valid driving licence and the use of a motorcycle helmet.
“I am also issuing a direct appeal to parents ahead of the autumn and winter months, urging them to fully understand the legal restrictions before purchasing electric bikes or dirt bikes for young people. Minors caught riding these vehicles can face heavy fines and receive penalty points that will impact their ability to obtain a driving licence and vehicle insurance in the future.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue reporting the anti-social and dangerous use of these vehicles to the police by calling 101 or reporting details online, including information on where these vehicles are being stored or hidden. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Riding these vehicles on public roads, pavements and local parks is entirely illegal. My officers will continue to conduct overt and covert pro-active operations within Havering in order to seize these vehicles and prosecute all those who choose to put our community at risk.”
