Lidl Looks Set To Replace Poundland At The Brewery In Romford
A premises-licence application has revealed that Lidl is preparing to move into Units 8 and 8A at The Brewery in Romford, including the former Poundland store.
Lidl looks set to replace Poundland at The Brewery in Romford after the supermarket submitted an official premises-licence application for the former discount store unit.
The application, published by Havering Council, has been made by Lidl Great Britain Limited for Units 8 and 8A at The Brewery, Romford, RM1 1AU.
Unit 8A was occupied by Poundland, which closed its doors on Monday, 14 September after the retailer was unable to secure a continuing lease for the premises.
The company also indicated that the landlord appeared to have other plans for the unit, with Lidl’s subsequent application now providing the clearest indication of what those plans involve.
A premises licence would allow Lidl to sell alcohol from the proposed supermarket between 7am and 11pm, Monday to Sunday. Members of the public can make representations concerning the application until 6 October 2026 through Havering Council’s Lidl premises-licence notice.
While the application strongly suggests Lidl intends to open at The Brewery, the supermarket has not yet publicly confirmed an opening date or announced when work on the unit could begin.
The proposed store would give Lidl a prominent position within Romford town centre and add another major food retailer to The Brewery’s existing mix of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities.
Poundland’s closure followed wider changes across the discount retailer’s national estate. Its other Romford store, located on South Street, remains nearby.
