Andrew Rosindell Marks 25 Years as Romford’s Longest Serving MP.
Romford MP Andrew Rosindell has marked a remarkable 25 years representing his hometown, becoming the longest serving Member of Parliament in the history of the Romford constituency, with celebrations taking place at St Alban’s Church and Romford Golf Club.
Mr Rosindell marked the milestone on Sunday alongside friends, family, supporters and fellow politicians, while also celebrating another significant anniversary as he presented a special portrait of His Majesty King Charles III to St Alban’s Parish Church.
The presentation took place during a special service at the church, where Father Hingley was also celebrating 50 years of priesthood.
The inscribed portrait of the King was presented by Mr Rosindell as a gift to the church, where it will be displayed in the church hall.
The Romford MP, who is well known for his strong patriotism and support for the Union Jack, has represented the constituency since 2001.
His 25 years in Parliament means he has now served Romford longer than any previous MP since the constituency was created in the late 19th century.
Reflecting on the milestone, Mr Rosindell said:
“It was a pleasure to celebrate 25 years as Romford’s Member of Parliament on Sunday, surrounded by friends, family, and supporters from right across the constituency, the country, and around the world.
“The morning was spent at Romford’s St. Alban’s Parish Church, jointly celebrating the day with Father Hingley on his 50 years of priesthood.
“I was also proud to present an inscribed portrait of His Majesty The King as a gift to the church, for display in their church hall.”
The celebrations continued during the afternoon at Romford Golf Club, where Mr Rosindell was joined by Romford councillors, Her Worship the Mayor of Havering, Deputy Lieutenant of Havering Nick Braken OBE and fellow MP Lee Anderson.
Friends and family who have shared the many experiences of Mr Rosindell’s 25 years in public life also joined the celebrations.
A specially made Romford celebration cake was presented to the MP, while Union Jack decorations and the Romford town crest helped mark the occasion.
Mr Rosindell said:
“It was splendid to be presented with a magnificent Romford celebration cake and to see the Union Jack decorations and the Romford town crest on display all day!”
Looking back over a quarter of a century in Parliament, Mr Rosindell reflected on the changes he has witnessed in British politics and in Romford.
He said:
“It’s been an eventful 25 years, and while governments have changed and politics have shifted many times, I remain proud to represent Romford, my hometown, the place where I was born and have lived all my life. The place that is my home and always will be!”
Mr Rosindell was first elected as Romford’s MP in 2001 and has since become one of the most familiar political figures in the constituency.
His long service has spanned numerous Prime Ministers, general elections and major political changes, while he has continued to describe Romford as his hometown.
Now holding the distinction of being the longest serving MP in the history of the constituency, Mr Rosindell says he hopes his political journey in Romford is far from over.
He added:
“Now, as the longest serving M.P. in the history of the Romford constituency, since it was created in the late 1800s, I look forward to continuing to serve the people of my community for many more years to come, if I am privileged to be chosen to represent them again.
“Thank you to all the people of Romford for their support and kindness over a quarter of a century!”
