Margaret Mullane MP Hosts Fantastic Knife Crime Summit That Brings The Community Together.

On Saturday 12 September, Margaret MullaneMP hosted a powerful and successful meeting session to counter the evils of knife crime. 110 people attended and took part in the meeting that heard from local campaigners Suzanne Hedges from the Ricky Hayden Memorial, Beatrice Mushiya who lost children to knife crime, Council Leader, Dominic Twomey as well as Margaret on the horrors of knife crime.

The stories and accounts from the bereaved mothersbrought tears to the eyes of many in attendance. Faith leaders from the local community gave strong speeches condemning the crime and proposing positive ways forward to counter the negative influences and cultures that drive knife crime. The meeting also heard from Patrick Green of the Ben Kinsella Trust (Knife Crime Prevention Charity) on the important work the charity does in the community.

The event was told that the Romford Lions Club, that has a wonderful history of positive action in the community, has donated and provided for free ‘bleed kits’ that will save the lives of victims of attacks.

Margaret told the Havering Daily  “This was such an important meeting in terms of the powerful testimony from mothers who had lost their children to knife crime. Their stories and the strength of these women brought tears to many people.

I am also so grateful to the Romford Lions Club for their work in the local community and particularly for their donation of their life saving ‘bleed kits’.

Not only do we need to give more support to the police in countering knife crime, we just as importantly have to bring about changes in attitudes in society, particularly in younger people, away from violence. The Faith Forum and events such as this, bringing people together is vital in that process.

In my work as an MP I will continue without fail in this effort in the hope to ensure that other parents do not have to suffer the desperate losses endured by Suzanne and Beatrice.

It is all talk and very little action, youth clubs etc. have been closed so our kids are on the street. Get the politicians to get some money for that. Make it a priority.

Why is it only Ms Mullane and Ms Lopez that do this sort of stuff in Havering that at least makes an attempt to solve issues that actually affect people’s lives.
Their Romford compatriot seems only to be interested if there’s a flag-raising ceremony to be photographed at or a member of the Royal Family to grovel over.
