Police Step Up Action Against Anti-Social Behaviour in Hornchurch After Residents Raise Concerns.
Police have stepped up efforts to tackle ongoing anti-social behaviour around Hornchurch town centre following concerns raised by local residents, with officers working alongside businesses to improve the area and increase their visibility during evening hours.
The St Andrew’s Safer Neighbourhood Team has been working with local businesses and other key partners in response to concerns from residents living around the town centre.
A particular focus has been the car park, where changes have now been introduced to parking arrangements.
Police say Sainsbury’s introduced shorter parking times following concerns raised by residents, who believed the changes could help reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.
Officers are also working closely with Sainsbury’s and other businesses across the wards to tackle a range of concerns, including anti-social behaviour and shoplifting.
Police visibility is also being increased during the evening, when residents have reported particular concerns.
Inspector Connolly and PS Mark Luxton said the team was continuing to listen to residents and work with local partners to address the issues affecting the community.
And officers have already taken action.
During August, police seized multiple nitrous oxide canisters following stop and searches carried out in the area.
A Community Resolution was also issued.
Officers have additionally arrested several people in connection with theft offences and the theft of motor vehicles.
Police stressed that the investigations remain ongoing and therefore further details cannot currently be released.
The latest police response comes after residents contacted the Havering Daily with concerns about what they describe as persistent anti-social behaviour around Hornchurch town centre.
Residents have previously raised concerns about groups of youths, late-night behaviour and activity around local businesses and public spaces.
Police say they will continue working with residents and businesses to address those concerns.
