Knitters and Crocheters Needed for Queen’s Hospital Remembrance Poppy Appeal

Local knitters and crocheters are being asked to get their needles and hooks ready to help create handmade red poppies for patients at Queen’s Hospital in Romford this Remembrance Sunday.

The appeal is being supported by Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, with the handmade poppies set to be given to patients as part of this year’s Remembrance commemorations.

Local crafting groups are already getting behind the campaign, including Rainham Village Belles WI and Rainham Clocktower WI, with more residents being encouraged to take part.

Those participating can knit or crochet as many poppies as they would like, but there are some important requirements.

All poppies must be red. They can be made with or without a leaf, but no pins should be attached to the poppies or included with donations due to safety considerations.

Crafters are welcome to use their own pattern or use the suggested pattern available online.

The appeal closes on 1 November, with organisers asking for all poppies to arrive in good time ahead of Remembrance Sunday on 8 November.

Completed poppies can be delivered in person to Queen’s Hospital. Donors should report to the main reception desk on the ground floor, opposite Costa Coffee, and ask for their donation to be passed to Deborah Edwards, Head of Patient Experience.

The appeal provides another opportunity for Havering’s talented community of knitters and crocheters to put their skills to use for local patients while helping the hospital mark an important day of remembrance.

Anyone who can take part is encouraged to start creating their red poppies now and help ensure patients at Queen’s Hospital can be included in this year’s commemorations.
