‘How Many More Fires?’ Havering Hit By Two More Blazes As Temperatures Set To Soar Again.

Two large fires struck Havering yesterday, with blazes reported in Rainham and Hornchurch as residents brace themselves for another week of hot, dry weather.

A fire broke out on Berwick Pond Road in Rainham yesterday afternoon, with dramatic drone photographs taken by Peter Barrett showing the extent of the blaze and the area of land affected.

A second fire was also reported at a field behind Dowding Way in Hornchurch, adding to a growing list of grass and land fires that have affected communities across Havering this summer.

The repeated incidents have left residents increasingly concerned about the impact on the borough’s open spaces, particularly as another period of high temperatures approaches.

Large areas of grassland have already been affected by fires this summer, with residents watching wildlife habitats and vegetation being destroyed.

For communities living close to the affected areas, there is growing frustration and concern about what could happen if the hot and dry conditions continue.

Many residents are also questioning how the repeated fires have started.

What is clear is the impact on Havering’s countryside.

Grassland which provides a habitat for birds, insects, mammals and other wildlife can be devastated by fire, leaving large areas of scorched ground behind.

Residents are now calling for greater action to protect Havering’s open spaces and reduce the risk of further fires.

With temperatures expected to rise again, there are fears that yesterday’s two incidents may not be the last.
