‘We’ve Had Enough’: Angry Rainham Residents To Protest Over Ongoing Launders Lane Fires.
Residents living near Launders Lane in Rainham say they have reached breaking point and will take to the streets this Saturday to demand action over the ongoing fires and smoke affecting their community.
The protest will take place from 12pm until 2pm on Saturday near the A1306 New Road, with residents determined to make their concerns heard.
For those living close to Launders Lane, the problem has become a regular part of everyday life.
Residents have repeatedly reported on the Launders Lane Facebook page that they have woken during the night coughing, struggling with the smell and feeling as though they are choking when smoke has been present.
They say that, unlike many other residents across Havering, they are left questioning whether it is safe to open their windows or spend time outside.
And now they say they have simply had enough.
One of the biggest concerns being raised is the impact of smoke on the surrounding green spaces and nearby communities.
Residents have even given the nearby park, Spring Park Farm, a new unofficial name — ‘Lung Harm Park’ — in protest at what they describe as repeated episodes of smoke and poor air quality in the area.
Some residents are also calling for the park to be temporarily closed when smoke is present, saying they believe the conditions are unsuitable for families and children.
For residents living alongside Launders Lane, this is no longer simply an environmental issue. They say it is about being able to live in their own homes without worrying about smoke entering through their windows or waking up coughing during the night.
