Romford Filmmaker’s Viral Success Heads to the Big Screen With Local Premiere
A young filmmaker from Havering whose debut film attracted millions of views online and caught the attention of Idris Elba is preparing to bring his work to the big screen in Romford later this month.
Danny’s feature film, Immersed in Shadows, will premiere at the Lumiere Cinema in Romford on 22 August 2026, marking a significant milestone in a journey that began when he was just 16 years old.
The project has been almost entirely driven by Danny himself. He wrote the original feature-length screenplay at the age of 16 before going on to star in the lead role, co-direct the film, compose the entire musical score and edit the finished production, all by the age of 18.
Working without industry connections and with extremely limited resources, Danny and his team set out to prove that determination and creativity could overcome a lack of funding.
Their efforts paid off.
At the age of 20, the film went viral, attracting 8.9 million views and more than 740,000 likes online. The unexpected success also caught the attention of actor and producer Idris Elba, who personally interviewed Danny after discovering the project.
During their conversation, Elba praised the young filmmaker, telling him: “You inspire people.”
Now, with the original film preparing for its cinema debut, Danny is already looking ahead to the future.
The screenplay for a sequel has already been completed, and he is actively seeking investors and creative partners to help bring the next chapter of the story to life.
Danny hopes the Romford premiere will not only celebrate how far the project has come but also open doors to new opportunities for independent filmmaking.
