Gallows Corner Chaos Continues as Water Company Chief Is Set To Receive A Reported £1.5 Million Retention Package

The reported decision to award a £1.5 million retention package to the Chief Executive of Northumbrian Water Group, the parent company of Essex & Suffolk Water, is likely to prompt questions from Havering residents as disruption at Gallows Corner continues.

According to reports, Heidi Mottram, Chief Executive of Northumbrian Water Group, has been awarded a retention package worth £1.5 million over the next five years. The reported payment is separate from any annual bonus and is intended to retain her leadership during the company’s current regulatory investment period. Northumbrian Water Group has reportedly said the award reflects her experience and the importance of retaining a “highly marketable individual” in a heavily regulated sector.

Although the reported retention package is unrelated to the Gallows Corner project, its timing may raise questions among customers who continue to experience significant disruption at one of Havering’s busiest road junctions.

Essex & Suffolk Water remains responsible for the strategic water main works taking place at Gallows Corner. The company has previously said that additional engineering work and further testing have been required after issues were identified during the commissioning of the new water main. Those works have resulted in repeated delays before the site can be handed back to Transport for London for the final stages of reopening.

For many residents, businesses and commuters, Gallows Corner has become synonymous with lengthy traffic queues, extended journey times and uncertainty over when the project will finally be completed. Havering Council has also publicly expressed concerns about the impact the delays have had on the borough and has previously called for improved communication and greater certainty over completion times.

Against this backdrop, some Havering residents may question whether the timing of a substantial executive retention package reflects the experience of customers affected by ongoing disruption. Others may feel that restoring confidence through the successful completion of major infrastructure projects should remain a key priority.

With Gallows Corner continuing to affect thousands of journeys across Havering, the announcement of the reported retention package is likely to generate discussion about executive pay, customer expectations and the responsibilities of companies providing essential public services.

How can they pay large bonuses for an alleged hard job , when across the water network they haven’t got enough money to actually do any meaningful projects , the ones they do are always behind schedule and over budget . so the water operators are paying bonuses for failure
