Thank You Sue Ospreay The People’s Mayor Who Won Havering’s Heart.
Last year, Havering chose a new Mayor.
The borough waited with baited breath and then along came the incredible, the amazing, the truly fantastic Councillor Sue Ospreay.
Let’s get things straight from the very start. Sue is a legend, not only across Rainham but throughout the entire borough, and the role of Mayor has suited her better than most.
For those of us who work with Sue, and we are proud to be among them, we knew from day one this was going to be a truly bumpy, energetic, hilarious and unforgettable ride of a year.
The first thing Sue vowed was that she would be “The People’s Mayor”.
Not only did she achieve that, she absolutely smashed it.
Sue has been one of the most incredible Mayors this borough has ever had and many of us truly believe she has been the best.
As soon as she became Havering Mayor, Sue introduced “The Mayor’s Merit”, an award she personally presented to people across the borough in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the community. Alongside the award came one of Sue’s famous bear badges because, as she proudly explained, they had done “bear good” across Havering.
That is Sue all over.
She is the ultimate people person and her boundless energy, kindness and enthusiasm have made this borough proud. There are very few people who could fulfil the role in the way Sue has done and her shoes will be enormous ones to fill.
She is a remarkable lady who is genuinely loved across Havering.
Her achievements during her mayoral year have been extraordinary.
One of the highlights came when Havering won the prestigious Lord Mayor of London’s New Year’s Day Parade. Of course, Sue was never going to stand quietly in the viewing stand alongside the other Mayors.
Instead, she was out there walking proudly alongside Havering’s floats dressed as Dick Whittington.
That is exactly who Sue is.
She threw herself into everything with passion, humour and heart.
Sue also hosted an incredible Prince and Princess Ball, an event we were proud to attend, and throughout the year she has supported her MCA Trust charity alongside other organisations, schools and community groups with unwavering dedication.
Wherever Sue goes, she joins in wholeheartedly.
She is one of the biggest-hearted people you could ever hope to meet and if anyone can do something, Sue can.
She is, after all, the amazing Sue.
Having Sue as Havering Mayor this year has been one of the best things to happen to this borough and today, as her mayoral year draws closer to its end, we simply want to say thank you.
Thank you for the laughter.
Thank you for the energy.
Thank you for the memories.
Thank you for caring so deeply about Havering and its people.
No one will ever fill your shoes Sue.
You truly have been the best.
