Rainham Residents Living Near Landfill Site Question Mystery Black Dust Covering Their Homes And Ask Is It Toxic?
Residents living near the Launders Lane landfill site in Rainham are raising urgent concerns after discovering a thick layer of black dust settling on their properties.
The mysterious dust has been found coating windows, doors, fruit trees in gardens, and now even household blinds. One resident said: “I clean my blinds every two days, and this is the dust that’s covering them. It’s inside our homes as well as outside.”
This dust, which many describe as gritty and dark, has become a daily problem for households across the area. Residents also report that, during the early mornings, the neighbourhood is shrouded in a heavy smog, leaving many struggling with breathing difficulties and forced to keep their windows firmly shut.
The issue is not only visual but also health-related. Strong, foul-smelling odours have been reported drifting across Rainham, with air quality monitors picking up worrying spikes in pollution. Levels of PM2.5 particulate matter have been recorded as high as 118 and even 203 – both readings classified as high and potentially dangerous to health.
For residents, the situation has become unbearable. Fruit growing in gardens is now covered in the black dust, making it inedible. Families are increasingly questioning what impact this ongoing pollution may be having on their health and quality of life.
The question remains: what next for these residents, and when will action finally be taken to resolve the nightmare conditions around Launders Lane?
