A Conservative Action Team comprising of Councillor Robert Benham, Bailey Nash-Gardner and Councillor Nisha Patel, the team for Marshalls and Rise Park, have launched a petition opposing a new planning application for the conversion of a hotel into a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) on Dunton Road.

The team is calling on local residents to join them in objecting to the proposal, which they say threatens to alter the character of the neighbourhood and put pressure on local services.

Residents in the area have also contacted the Havering Daily and local councillors to openly add their objections against this conversion that they deem would be ‘extremely detrimental’ to their road and all those living nearby.

Bailey Nash-Gardner, told the Havering Daily:

“Residents are rightly concerned that this application would increase noise, parking issues and could undermine the strong sense of community residents have worked so hard to build.”

The proposed development would see the hotel converted into a multi-occupancy property, allowing multiple unrelated individuals to rent rooms individually. The Conservative team argues that this type of housing, while appropriate in some urban areas, is not suitable for established residential streets like Dunton Road.

Councillor Nisha Patel added:

“We understand the need for affordable housing, but there has to be balance. This application is the wrong plan in the wrong place. Residents deserve to be heard.”

The petition has already gathered strong support from local families, and the team is urging more residents to sign and submit objections to the council before the deadline on 15thJuly 2025.
