VIDEO: Warning to Havering residents as burglar takes six seconds to break into Hornchurch house.
Police advise to make sure you double lock all your front doors and close downstairs windows at night.
A Hornchurch resident is buying extra locking for his front door after a burglar took six seconds to break into his house.
The incident happened on Burnway at 4.03am when the burglar brazenly walked up to the front door with what is believed to be a screwdriver and successfully opened the door in six seconds. Fortunately the family dog was able to scare the brazen burglar away and they left empty handed.
It is believed the burglar was after keys to the family’s vehicle.
There has been a spate of these burglaries across the borough where burglars are looking to break into homes to access car keys.
Police are advising residents to make sure they double look their front doors every evening (lifting handle up and locking with they key) and closing all downstairs windows. Also to keep your car keys away from your front door.
They are also urging residents to report all incidents, including any suspicious activity or vehicles on their road in the early hours of the morning.
