Basildon man arrested for five shoplifting offences and one public order offence in Elm Park all in one day.
‘We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to the local community in Havering’-Inspector Connolly.
Proactive work by Havering police officers and retail workers saw a man in his 40s arrested for five shoplifting offences, an attempted shoplifting offence and a public order offence between the Elm Park shopping area and train station on May 24.
Keith Sears, 44, of Beambridge Place, Basildon, was arrested the same day for all the offences. He was charged and remanded on the same day and has since been in custody.
On the 6 August at Barkingside Court, Sears received a twenty five week custodial sentence and also a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) was given with the following conditions:
1.Not to enter the area of HEATHWAY, DAGENHAM, namely REEDE ROAD, PARSLOES AVENUE, THE HEATHWAY and THE HEATHWAY SHOPPING CENTRE other than in a moving mode of transport provided by TFL or private hire vehicle.
2.Not to enter the area of ELM PARK, HAVERING, namely THE BROADWAY, STATION PARADE, ELM PARK AVENUE and ST NICOLAS AVENUE ELM PARK other than in a moving mode of transport provided by TFL or private hire vehicle.
Inspector Mark Connolly, Havering South Safer Neighbourhood Team said
“We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to the local community in Havering. Both the custodial sentence and the Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) passed to Keith Sears would not have been achieved without the community reporting these crimes and assisting us with the investigations.
This sentence will make a difference to those living and working in Elm Park. My teams will continue to work together with Havering council and the CBO panel on applications which is vital in long term problem solving and in community crime fighting.
We are striving to make a difference and I would encourage people to report crime onlinewww.met.police.uk or call 101. To remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers. Always 999 in an emergency.”

And to think that some local political figures want Havering to leave London and become part of Essex, thereby exposing us to these types of criminals, who would no doubt take the opportunity to travel into our towns to continue their Essex-type crime sprees.
