A Hornchurch school has issued a letter asking parents and their children to be vigilant on their way to and from school after a male approached two children.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning just after 8am as the children were on their way to Harrow Lodge Primary School on Albany Road.

It is believed the male who is described as white, balding, in his late 20/early 30s wearing paint stained jeans and no top, approached the children asking them if they needed help crossing the road.

The same man was then spotted at Harrow Lodge Park, near the school just before 3pm, school closing time.

Harrow Lodge Primary School issued a letter to their parents and carers stating:

A suspicious individual approached some of students on their way to school this morning. We are cooperating fully with the police to ensure the safety of all our students and staff. Please be vigilant at collection time and ensure you keep your children close to you at all times.

We kindly ask for your support in reminding your children about the importance of not engaging with strangers and reporting any suspicious activity to a teacher or member of staff immediately.

A spokesperson for the Met Police told the Havering Daily:

“Police were contacted at about 09:30am on Wednesday, 17 July to reports that a man had spoken with two children approximately an hour earlier on Albany Road in Hornchurch

“Police received a second call at about 14:45 stating that the man had been seen in the vicinity of Harrow Lodge Park. Officers attended in order to speak with the man but there was no trace.

“At this time, no crimes have been identified.

“Officers remain in contact with the local school.”
