EXCLUSIVE: Brave mother tracks down man who followed her 14 year old daughter home in Rainham and confronts him.
“I ran out, I think it was an adrenaline rush and I found him on Castle Avenue where I began to confront him and ask why he had followed my daughter home.”
The mother of a 14 year old girl who was followed home on Tuesday afternoon, tracked down the male and confronted him demanding to know why he had walked up to her front door after her daughter.
The shocking incident happened in Rainham on Tuesday as her daughter, who is in Year 9, was walking home from school.
The mother who did not wish to be named, told the Havering Daily: “It was lucky I was working from home and rushed down the stairs to see what was going on. My daughter had realised that he was following her when she was on Newtons Close and noticed that he was behind her.
“She then got home and in a panic she left the keys in the door getting in. At this stage he walked passed our house but then specifically walked back and up to our front door. At that stage I was at the door and literally began to shout at him ‘What the f**k do you want! Fortunately I was able to remove the keys quickly, but what scares me is, if I wasn’t home what would he have done?”
The angry mother then immediately dialled 101 and was told there was a ten minute wait and to report it online. She then posted what had happened on a facebook group where other residents had reported seeing this man trying to get into people’s houses. One man had actually reported how he had tried his frontdoor to get in. They also informed the mother that he was last seen on Castle Avenue where the brave mother then rushed out to confront him.
“I ran out, I think it was an adrenaline rush and I found him on Castle Avenue where I began to confront him. I asked him why he had followed my daughter home and he replied ‘It’s a free country’. Then I called 999 and police arrived within minutes and said they had been looking for him.”
The Rainham mother is now urging others to be vigilant.
“There are so many incidents like this out there. They happen everyday and really are under reported, please report to the police and be vigilant.
“Luckily my daughter is okay and just a little bit shocked. The whole incident was very upsetting and just goes to show how vigilant we all need to be.”
