A 43 year old woman was found dead in a block of flats in Romford just after 10pm last night and a 48 year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. The suspect and victim are believed to have been known to each other.

A spokesperson for the Met Police told the Havering Daily:

“Police were called at 22:11 on Monday, 22 May to concerns for the welfare of a woman at a residential property in Old Church Gardens, Romford.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. A 43-year-old woman was found dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed. 

The death is currently being treated as unexpected and detectives are carrying out further enquiries to establish the circumstances. 

A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at an east London police station. 

The suspect and the victim were believed to be known to one another. 

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.”
