Havering’s Labour councillors are putting forward proposals to improve bus services across Havering. This is in response to Transport for London’s consultation on a review of the bus network across the capital.

The Labour Group are pleased that the Mayor of London recognises the need to strengthen connectivity in outer London and have made the following comments on these Havering bus services:

Bus Route 497

The improvement to this route from TfL’s plan is welcomed by the Labour councilors. Bringing about greater connectivity, meaning fewer changes, and improved Sunday services.

Bus Route 347

The Labour councilors have strongly objected to proposals to remove the 347 service linking Ockendon Station to Upminster and then on to Romford Station. Romford is a main centre and the loss of a bus route chips away at the economic vitality and viability of Romford and could result in more car traffic. TfL are asked to explore the possibility of extending the 347 to Lakeside.

Bus Route 346

The removal of route 346, if replaced by a longer 497 route, would be acceptable, provided that service covered the current 346 route.

The Labour Group’s view is that residents should be offered more convenient alternatives to car use, not less, and want to engage with TfL to deliver more services on a single-decker, hail-and-ride basis where appropriate.
