Sue Hedges and April Hayden spend their lives fighting the horrors of knife crime. Having lost their son and brother Ricky Hayden to knife crime in 2016, the two ladies have set up a memorial in Ricky’s name to raise funds to buy as many bleed kits and bleed kit units as possible.

On Tuesday 15 November, Sue and April donated a Daniel Baird bleed kit unit to the Merchant Brentwood. This was the first unit to be fitted in across Brentwood and was accepted by Rick from the pub.

Sue told the Havering Daily:”Our aim is to install as many of these kits and units across the area as we can. As we can see, no one is addressing the important issue of knife crime, yet it blights our streets daily. By having pubs and other businesses accept these vital pieces of equipment, means another life can be saved.”

Work such as this from bereaved families and anti knife crime campaigners has become so vital for our society. The bleed kits and unit are life saving pieces of equipment that help stop forms of catastrophic bleeding from knife and gun shot wounds to road traffic accidents.

“We must keep fighting for our youth on the streets today. Until some one decides to address this issue, it is up to us to keep going and making our voices heard,” added Sue.

Sue and April really are two amazing community champions who through their own pain, have now dedicated their life to helping others.
