Hornchurch firefighter Gemma Allen has received a commendation from the London Fire Brigade Deputy Assistant Commissioner Darren McLatchey after her incredible rescue of two children.

Firefighter Allen rushed to a fire in Stoke Newington last year only to be told that two young children were trapped in an upstairs attic. The ground floor and first floor of the building were full of smoke and made it extremely difficult for firefighters to enter.

Gemma entered the building despite the awful conditions and made her way to the upstairs to rescue the two children. They were both unresponsive when she found them due to smoke inhalation. Thanks to her heroic actions, both children were saved.
