Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas keeps battling to have Beam Park Station built.

The campaign to ensure that the promise of a new station at Beam Park is brought about has entered a new phase, says Dagenham and Rainham MP, Jon Cruddas.

Jon is continuing to press for the government to lift its block on the development of the station. Behind the scenes negotiations are taking place between the GLA and officials at the government’s Department for Transport. The GLA have produced their estimates for the usage of the station to justify the project going ahead.

Jon said “ I have learned that officials at the DfT are saying to the GLA that they think it will take between 9 – 12 months to finalise the matter. This is totally unacceptable to me and more importantly unacceptable to the residents who have bought new homes on the promise of a station with a train service that would get them to Fenchurch Street station in 20 minutes.

This government block is also having a damaging impact on local businesses and their investment plans to bring jobs to the local area.

In response to this I have written to the Minister of State for Transport explaining the importance of the station to local residents, that it was a key reason for buying homes at Beam Park and the impact that not allowing the station to be built is having on local business confidence. I have asked her to get the officials in her Department to speed up their work so that a successful result can be won for local residents and the Beam Park / Rainham area”.
