Jubilee celebrations at Derham House fit for a Queen.
Excitement had been running high at Derham House in Upminster where residents and staff were busy making Jubilee-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of head chef Dmitrij Saverskij in preparation for the Jubilee.
Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen. Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a garden party with live entertainment with the lovely Joanne Lee, the very talented Faye daughter of our head of dementia unit who also sang some songs, her brother Nga who opened the show with a reading and Kat & Holly with their horses Star & Teddy, Luigi’s ice creams and our guest appearance was the newly elected Deputy Mayor of Havering Cllr Stephanie Nunn and the Consort Cllr Barry Mugglestone.
The whole home came together to celebrate our longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of us.
Crina Lee, General Manager at Derham House said: “We’ve all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, it has been such fun. Our staff and residents love the Queen and so they were all so excited to take part. It has been a real collaborative process – thinking about how we wanted to celebrate, planning our activities, decorating the home and creating all the party food. It was so lovely to be able to invite our friends and family to come and join us for a proper celebration too.”
One resident at Derham House said: “The Queen is an amazing lady, everyone wanted to get involved in the celebrations. It is remarkable to think she has been on the throne for 70 years, such an achievement! I can just about remember the Coronation, I was very small but I remember the street party we had then and this was just as much fun. We all wanted to pay our respects and say thank you for all that the Queen has done for this country.”
The varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
