Jon Cruddas tells the Havering Daily about his utter disbelief at recent comments from Tory MP Lee Anderson stating that there isn’t a massive need for food banks.
Mr Cruddas said:
“I heard with disbelief the comments from the Tory MP, Lee Anderson, in the House of Commons about people forced to use food banks to survive. He believes the problem isn’t that families are being crushed by the cost-of-living crisis caused by his government, it’s the fault of people not being able to cook. Perhaps he should visit the Rainham Food bank and see just how families are struggling to pay their energy bills and make ends meet.
“It’s also worth remembering that many of the local people who now rely on food banks are in work, but whose pay can’t keep pace with inflation which is spiralling out of control as a result of Tory economic failures. The Tories are completely out of touch with the realities of every day life for families in areas like Dagenham and Rainham – they are the cost-of-living crisis.”
