Julia Lopez MP calls on residents to respond the new health hub consultation.

MP for Hornchurch and Upminster, Julia Lopez, has been campaigning for the new Health and Wellbeing Hub at the former St George’s Hospital site since her election in 2017. More recently, Mrs Lopez has worked with health and care partners across north east London, who have been working together for a number of years, to design the hub, which proposes to bring together a range of health, social care and community services under one roof, in a brand-new fit-for-purpose facility.

Following Mrs Lopez’s sustained campaigning and representations to both the Health Secretary and the Prime Minister, the Government announced in autumn 2019 that it would allocate £17.4million towards the funding of the project. Since then, local GPs have been working with NHS partners from the local clinical commissioning group, North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) to develop the plans. Planning permission for the development was granted by Havering Council last November.

The North East London Clinical Commissioning Group (NEL CCG) is now seeking feedback from local people and stakeholders and there will be an online meeting on 21 January with the latest updates on the project. Mrs Lopez encourages all local residents and stakeholders to submit their thoughts on the project’s proposals.
