During the firework period our Voluntary Police Cadets in Havering undertook test purchasing evenings to see if local vendors were selling fireworks illegally to children.

The results proved to be very successful as not one vendor visited by our Police Cadets during the test purchasing evenings, sold fireworks to children.

Havering Police Cadet Co-ordinator PC Anthony Kiddle told the Havering Daily:

“Our cadets were involved in the Operation Autumn Nights over a two day period. We visited nine premises with six cadets under taking test purchasing.

“We went to shops right across the borough and we were really pleased with the results that not one shop visited sold fireworks to a child.

“Our cadets here in Havering are actively supporting Met Operations and did really well.”

Havering Police Cadets are currently looking for more senior cadets aged between 13-18 years old. They meet twice a week on Wednesday and Thursday’s at Emerson Park School and Coopers School in Upminster. The cadets undertake many events in the community and across London throughout the year and are a very successful group under the leadership of PC Kiddle.

If you are interested in joining the cadets or have a son or daughter who is interested, please email anthony.kiddle@met.police.uk
