Business students link up with school to raise money for Mind.

Business students from New City College Havering Sixth Form linked up with local secondary school pupils to run a Mental Health Awareness Day, raising money for the charity Mind.

The students, who are studying BTEC Business at the college in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch, joined pupils at Hornchurch High School for the day and delivered presentations to Years 7 and 8 that they had prepared themselves on the issues of mental health.

The pupils had a non-uniform day and were asked to wear clothes that were blue – as this is the charity’s signature colour.

A cake sale and a raffle were held and the total raised for Mind was £925.47.

David Norris, Assistant Head Teacher at Hornchurch High, said: “The day was a great success. The raffle and generous donations from both students and teachers really helped to support the charity.

“The presentation from the sixth form students to our Year 7 and 8 classes was engaging and informative and allowed our pupils to further improve their knowledge and understanding of mental health. It is so important that we talk about this issue with young people, so they feel comfortable and accept that it is a part of life.”
