Residents across new housing developments south of New Road (A1306) in Rainham and south Hornchurch have been badly affected by a foul odour which has become worse in the recent hot weather.
A number of local residents have been in contact with Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham to complain saying that the strong sewage like smell has prevented them from opening windows and using their gardens.
Local Labour team member, Fay Hough, who lives close by said: “The smell is terrible and has been getting worse along New Road. I am glad our MP is picking this issue up for residents and I will be monitoring the situation locally”.
Jon said “ I have contacted Havering Environment Services to urge them to investigate the cause and ensure that actions are put in place to stop the problem.” Jon added “ This also brings into question the development problems in this area. There needs to be proper attention before house building programmes are allowed to go ahead to make sure all forms of infrastructure are in place so that the homes and communities that are created will be sustainable and promote wellbeing”.
