Upminster family donate 200 shoeboxes packed with gifts to Havens Hospice.

Despite 2020 being a year that most of us want to forget, it has bought out some real community heroes who have gone out of their way to support the Havering community.

Reena Midha from Upminster and her family collected just under 200 shoeboxes full of gifts for Haven’s Hospice. Reena told the Havering Daily: “Every year we undertake a project to raise money for charity. Obviously this year with Covid is different and we weren’t quite sure how to do it.

“My family and I decided to collect shoe boxes full of gifts and send them to Haven’s Hospice. Sadly I lost my father in law earlier in the year, so we know just how important hospices’ are in the community. My son Arjun was the driving force behind it.”

The Upminster family began by asking friends and family to donate boxes full of gifts which they did. They collected them for nearly a month and then added an Amazon Wishlist that really took off with members of the community all donating.

“The boxes contained necessities which we had asked the hospice what they needed. Things like towels and nappies and other vital products for families,” continued Reena.

Reena and her two children Arjun aged 6 and Ava-lina aged 3 spent a week and a half wrapping the boxes following the strict Covid health and safety guidelines.

Well done to this amazing family for being real community heroes!
