Enduring blazing heat to the cold, wind and rain, TonyBrindley, has marched through September to achieve the 1,000,000 steps to help raise vital funds for Havering Samaritans.
He crossed the finish line at 4pm in pouring rain on Wednesday 30th Sept outside the Samaritans Office at 107, North Street, Romford to the applause and congratulations of onlookers. Tony used a phone app to keep track of the numbers:
Total number of steps = 1,000,383 – Average hours of walking per day = 6-Total km = 593km – Funds raised online date = £962- Total funds raised = £1962
Tony was welcomed across the threshold by Havering Director, Arthur Leathley, who said,
“We are delighted that the sponsorship raised online has been augmented by a generous donation from MTR Elizabeth Line of £1,000. His walk is a great symbol of the work of Samaritans who help millions of people overcome difficulties, step by step, day by day. Now, more than ever, Havering Samaritans will offer vital help for those needing support at such an uncertain time.”
Also there were representatives from his employer MTRElizabeth Line, including Kirit Varsani, Group Station Manager, who said,
“Everyone at MTR Elizabeth line is incredibly proud of Tony’s dedication and commitment to undertaking this challenge in support of Samaritans. Tony has completed a number of fundraising challenges over the years and has been a great Ambassador for MTREL”
Having got his breath back a damp Tony added, “Every step was worth it and every pound raised will support those who need Samaritans”.
Its costs about £35 per day to keep the Havering Branch of Samaritans open and it is not too late to donate https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RichardBaker92
